International Rollout of D365 Finance & SCM: One Model, Multiple Countries

The Challenge
The group was immersed in a strategic plan to migrate its ERP to Microsoft Dynamics 365. The objective was to standardize and harmonize business processes across all group companies, maintaining a common model that ensured efficiency, control, and scalability, without losing the ability to adapt to the legal and operational requirements of each country.
Materia Holding is a Spanish business group that offers high value-added comprehensive solutions in the fields of raw materials, chemicals, and minerals. Its business model covers production and distribution, logistics, technical consulting, research and development (R&D), and sustainable waste management. Built upon companies with more than four decades of experience, Materia Holding operates nationally and internationally, working closely with its clients to optimize processes, improve efficiency, and generate sustainable growth.
In this context, the three entities—Quimialmel Mexico, Quimialmel Colombia, and Mercados y Comercios Asiáticos—needed to be incorporated into the new technological environment already in place. The main challenge was to integrate these companies through a roll-out approach, reusing an existing Dynamics 365 model and avoiding a full implementation from scratch.
The Journey
To address this challenge, AXAZURE designed a unique and coordinated project based on a roll-out of companies within the existing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & SCM environment, replicating the group’s functional model and adapting it only when strictly necessary.
The functional scope focused on the CORE processes common to all companies, especially those related to distribution (procurement and sales) and financial management. The implemented modules included general ledger, taxes, fixed assets, cash and bank management, customers, vendors, landed cost, procurement, inventory, warehousing, planning, cost control, and sales—forming a homogeneous functional CORE for the entire group.

The implementation followed the Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step methodology, adapted to Dynamics 365, and was also framed under the Success by Design approach. This methodological combination enabled the team to:
-
Reduce risks in a multinational environment through structured planning and proactive identification of potential issues.
- Ensure quality and control at every project phase by applying periodic reviews and best practices recommended by both Sure Step and Success by Design.
- Guarantee proper project and deliverable management, providing greater visibility, traceability, and alignment with the group’s strategic objectives.
- Obtain a comprehensive view of risks, architecture, and security, strengthening the long-term scalability and sustainability of the solution.
- Facilitate adaptation to change and informed decision-making through review and validation sessions focused on operational excellence.
AXAZURE was responsible for implementing the CORE processes and supporting the local partner in configuring the legal and tax localizations for each country, ensuring correct ERP operation in Mexico, Colombia, and Spain.
The project was designed with a parallel Go-Live for the three companies, requiring active and coordinated participation from key users in all countries in activities such as requirements gathering, functional validations, and testing. Constant communication and alignment among all parties were critical throughout the entire process.

The Arrival

David Valiente | Director of Information and Organization
“The roll-out approach has been key to advancing our strategy of unifying the ERP at a group level. Having a standard model in Dynamics 365 allows us to grow in an orderly manner, maintaining control and consistency across countries. The coordination between teams and the support from AXAZURE have been essential to achieving a migration aligned with our long-term objectives.”
The result was a successful implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & SCM across the three entities, achieving real process standardization aligned with Materia Holding’s global strategy. The roll-out approach reduced time and costs while ensuring operational and financial consistency across countries.
The group now has a solid, replicable, and scalable ERP model, robust enough to serve as the foundation for future integrations. Key processes have been standardized while respecting local specificities, all under a common framework that strengthens control, efficiency, and international growth capacity.
This project not only consolidates the group’s digital transformation but also lays the groundwork for new companies to be progressively integrated, moving toward a unified technological ecosystem prepared to support business evolution in the coming years.
CONCLUSION
The project with Axazure has been a key milestone within Materia Holding’s digital transformation plan. Through a controlled roll-out approach, Materia Holding has successfully standardized its processes, strengthened financial and operational control, and established the foundations of a common, scalable ERP ready for future deployments across other group companies.
